FAQs

What is the Tideform API and what can it be used for?

The Tideform API provides updated spot and forward prices for bunkering fuel at over 500 ports worldwide, based on an advanced algorithm that aggregates and filters data from multiple sources. The API can be integrated directly into your own systems for automated price monitoring and decision support.

Which types of marine fuel does the API support?

The API covers the most typical products of marine fuels (bunkers); Marine Gas Oil (MGO), Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO), as well as alternative fuels such as biofuels and LNG where data is available.

Which ports do you cover?

We indicate prices in more than 500 ports and therefore cover the global market well. We divide our coverage into port ranking from 1-5, where port rank 1 and 2 provides pricing in near-real time due to high liquidity (fidelity) in available pricing from actual fixtures. Port rank 1 and 2 covers around 70 of the largest ports in the world. Port rank 3-5 slowly becomes more modelled and based on market reports, local indications and historical pricing adjusted with market movements.

Where do prices originate from?

Our indications are the output of our in-house created model, which places a large emphasis on factual prices from +60,000 fixtures, supplying around 30 million tons per year. This underscores the validity of our data quality.

How are prices updated in the API?

Prices are continuously updated, prioritizing data from actual fixtures and most recent market reports to ensure that spot prices reflect current market conditions.

How does the API handle outliers and data quality?

The algorithm automatically filters outliers, both locally and globally, to ensure that price data is reliable and not distorted by abnormal fluctuations.

How are prices in the API validated?

As most prices are rooted in actual raw deal data across +60,000 confirmed fixtures, the accuracy of prices is considered very high for port rank 1 and 2. Prices are continuously compared with industry benchmarks, and the algorithm has documented high alignment.

What security and authentication methods does the API support?

The API requires an API key or token for access and supports modern authentication methods such as OAuth and JWT for secure integration.

How do I access the API documentation?

API documentation is available in the Insights section and contains details about endpoints, parameters, authentication, and example requests.

What does it cost to use the API?

As we price based on the solution required and the use-case behind it, this will be done on a case-by-case basis. We therefore encourage you to reach out to talk about your challenges and what you require to solve these. Then we will together discuss a suitable solution and provide you with an indication.

What support options are available for technical issues?

Tideform offers support via phone, email and chat, as well as access to technical documentation and this FAQ section for troubleshooting and best practices. See contact details below.
